Secondary IDE Channel: PIO/DMA Mode problem in Win XP

If for some unknown reason, the Current Transfer Mode of your (optical) drive that is connected to the Second IDE Channel has been set to PIO, even though DMA is enable, normally this is Windows problem, and not the physical cable. To fix this:

1. Open Device Manager (Contron Panel > System Properties > Hardware > Device Manager)
2. Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
3. Select Secondary IDE Channel then click Uninstall icon or go to Action > Uninstall
4. Click OK to confirm
5. After the channel has been uninstall, click Scan for hardware changes icon or Action > Scan for hardware changes
6. Windows will detect the Secondary IDE Channel and correctly set the Current Transfer Mode to DMA again

If this method still does not work, then it may be your physical cable. You will have to open your case and move your drive to a different channel.
